Anxiety Anxiety for No Reason?

Do you find yourself sitting at home or anywhere really, and even though nothing is happening, nothing scary is coming up, and you're not in a strange situation, you STILL manage to hit periods of high anxiety that you can't control?

This has been happening to me a lot recently, and I can't seem to stop myself. I talked to my therapist about it, he recommended a couple of distraction methods to take my mind off of things, but the anxiety just seems to come right back after a brief period. Does this happen to anyone else?

Perhaps talking to your therapist is stirring things up a bit. That's pretty normal as one begins to bring long repressed feelings and fears out into the open, and especially that you're sharing these thoughts and emotions with a new person you've only met recently.

That's very possible indeed! We have been talking about a lot of things that are...well, not fun to talk about. So it is highly likely that's playing on my mind a bit.

See, perfectly normal. You're probably stressing about the things you've talked about as much as what you will be dealing with at each new session. It's all part of the process, you will be OK.

I certainly can understand the random anxiety. I think unfortunately it can be a normal part of suffering with an anxiety disorder, and as Foxy says, discussing your issues with a therapist.

I hope this passes for you soon.

Thanks, Lee, I agree, it could very well just be a normal part of having an anxiety disorder, though a very frustrating part of it! I hope it passes quickly, as well. Those random moments of high anxiety are awful!

Oh yes, they truly are and you have all of my sympathies. I often wake in the night, heart racing and sweaty, unable to get back to sleep.

I hope the anxiety passes for you very soon.

It's a really horrible thing to experience, isn't it? No conceivable reason, but it just starts up and won't stop. I'm sorry you experience it, as well, and likewise, I hope that it passes for you very quickly!

Do you take any medication? I've found talk therapy really doesn't help me, but certain meds do, in a huge way. I have GAD, "Generalized Anxiety Disorder" (and a bunch of other stuff). At home it's okay, but I don't like going out anywhere.. :(

At the moment, no, I'm hesitant to take any more medications because I'm already on quite a few, so adding more seems...daunting. I totally understand the anxiety at going anywhere, I hate it!

Not sure if it's been mentioned before but I took talking therapy (IAPT service) and it can help to hear from the perspective of others but not sure if they will be doing the group thing yet as most of the NHS is not face2face which I feel makes a big difference.

I take 3 brain pills, but I get what you are saying. I had a really bad reaction one time in the mid 90's and went off my pills for several years.... :(

Yeah, it's hard to want to take more pills when you're on so many and had so many bad reactions over the years. I might eventually agree to take something else, but only if I feel it's truly necessary.
