I struggle to be in a car. I was in a car accident several years ago and have high anxiety when I am in one, sometimes having panic attacks. I haven't been able to drive in 5 years. Anytime I leave the house, I have to mentally prepare myself just to get into a car with someone else.
I've heard of this happening to quite a few people, it sounds awful. I've been in a car accident and was nervous the first couple of times afterwards, but got over it fairly quickly, so I can't imagine how awful it must be to feel that stress every time you get in a car!
I struggle to feel safe when I'm behind the wheel... I can drive well 99% of the time, but I tend to get distracted quite easily and suffer from lapses in concentration, which is obviously dangerous if it happens at the wrong time. Fortunately, I've never been in an accident, but I have had some near misses...
I prefer to stick to situations and activities where a lapse in concentration isn't going to kill me.
I'm fine with driving in general but I do hate roundabouts especially the larger ones. I'm okay with the mini-roundabouts and the smaller ones. The spiral ones just give me a headache and make me nervous especially when the lines on the ground are barely visible.
I didn't realize this was a common issue. While I am happy I am not alone with my struggles, I still would never want people to go through this. It is terrible. I have to rely on others now because I am too afraid to drive and even still, I am not comfortable in a car.
