Cookie Policy

Last updated: February 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies this forum sets, which third-party services may set cookies, and how you can control them. We have designed this site to use as few cookies as possible and to give you genuine control.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. They are used to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and (on some sites) track you for advertising. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Our Own Cookies

Cookie NameCategoryPurposeDuration
threadly_session Strictly Necessary Maintains your login session as you navigate between pages. Without this the forum cannot keep you signed in. Session (expires when you close your browser, or after 2 hours of inactivity)
XSRF-TOKEN Strictly Necessary Security token that protects all form submissions against cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks. Required for any interactive action (posting, logging in, etc.). Session
remember_web_* Functional Set only if you tick "Remember Me" at login. Allows automatic re-login across browser sessions without entering your password again. 90 days
threadly_cookie_consent Functional Remembers your cookie consent choice (Accept All or Essential Only) so you are not shown the consent banner on every page visit. 1 year

Browser Storage (Not Cookies)

We use your browser's localStorage to store your dark/light theme preference (threadly-theme). This never leaves your device and is not a cookie.

Third-Party Cookies (Consent Required)

When posts contain embedded content from external services, those services may set their own cookies. We block all such content until you give consent. If you choose "Essential Only", these embeds will show as click-to-load placeholders and no third-party connection is made unless you explicitly click to load one.

ServiceTriggered byCookies setTheir privacy policy
YouTube (Google LLC) Video embeds in posts Uses youtube-nocookie.com which minimises tracking. Google may still set functional cookies related to video playback. Google Privacy Policy
Vimeo Inc. Video embeds in posts Vimeo sets cookies for video playback preferences and, if you are signed in to Vimeo, account-related cookies. Vimeo Privacy Policy
X Corp. (Twitter) Embedded tweets in posts Twitter's widgets.js sets tracking and personalisation cookies. We only load this script if you have accepted cookies. X Privacy Policy

We use youtube-nocookie.com for YouTube embeds specifically to reduce Google's cookie usage even when you have consented.

Cookies We Do NOT Use

  • Analytics or tracking cookies (e.g. Google Analytics, Meta Pixel).
  • Advertising or retargeting cookies.
  • Any cookies that identify you across other websites.

Managing Your Preferences

You can change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time by clicking Cookie Settings in the footer of any page. Choosing "Essential Only" will not affect your ability to use the forum β€” it only prevents third-party video embeds from loading automatically.

You can also clear or block cookies through your browser settings. Note that blocking the strictly necessary cookies (threadly_session, XSRF-TOKEN) will sign you out and prevent you from logging in.
